8.1. Static vs potential hardpoints

Hardpoints describe how various devices ( turrets, guns, sensors, etc.. ) are potentially connected to the hull of an entity. They also implicitely define restrictions on the size and energy requirements of the device.

挂载点是多种设备连接船体的实体(座台、火炮、感应器、等...)。它们也同时定义了挂载设备的尺寸和能量需求限制。

There are two types of hardpoints: static hardpoints and potential (dynamic) hardpoints.

有两种类型的挂载点:静态挂载点和潜在(动态)挂载点。

– Static hardpoints are hardpoints that are structurally important to the model design; eg. The model's design / style would be affected if there was no hardpoint. Static hardpoints are part of the mesh/hull of the model. Even if nothing is mounted on this type of hardpoint, the hardpoint is visible.

  • 静态挂载点是模型构造上重要的一部分;例如:模型的设计/类型在没有挂载点的情况下会受到影响。静态挂载点是模型网格/船壳一部分。即使没有东西安装在这类挂载点上,那这些挂载点也是可见的。

– Potential (dynamic) hardpoints : those are hardpoints that can be placed anywhere on the ship hull provided that it's flat enough ( try to be coherent, don't place hardpoints on details or where there are important details in the textures, such as windows ), and that there's enough room for it. Potential hardpoints use markers placed on the hull to symbolize where a hardpoint can be spawned, and which characteristics this hardpoint will have ( like its class ). They don't require additional geometry in the model itself. Potential hardpoints do not physically exist until later in-game, when the player decides to mount a weapon/device on the hardpoint.

  • 潜在(动态)挂载点:那些是可以设置在船壳任意平整位置(确保逻辑紧密,不要使挂载点覆盖在船体的一些重要材质细节上,比如窗户)上的挂载点,所以要事先为此预留足够的的安装空间。潜挂载点要在船壳上使用特定标记来标识哪里可以设置挂载点,以及载点会具有何种特性(比如尺寸级别)。它们自身不需要附加任何模型。只有当玩家在游戏中决定在它们上面安装武器/设备的时候,潜挂载点的物理性存在才会表现出来。

In general, if you are placing hardpoints after the hull of your S/S has been modeled, use potential hardpoints. All surfaces that are large and flat should use potential hardpoints. You should only use static ( modeled ) hardpoints when they influence the design of the ship. See the 2 hardpoints on the front of the Makon frigate for example:

In this picture of the Makon frigate, you can notice 3 types of hardpoints. First, in blue are the static hardpoints ( MK2 ). Those are static because the ship design is heavily influenced by the hardpoints. Next, you find in red the MK1 potential hardpoints. Maybe a player will mount some turrets on a few of those, and keep the others empty due to low finances. The setup of weapons/devices is completely player-customizable. Finally, there are some yellow potential hardpoints on the sides of the ship.

Note that all hardpoint types describe the maximum size of the weapon/device that can be attached to it. So a MK2 hardpoint can be used to install LMK1-5, MK1 or MK2 weapons/devices.

注意:所有挂载点均限制了安装在上面的武器/设备的最大尺寸。因此一个MK2挂载点只允许在上面加装更低尺寸的LMK(1-5)类,MK1类或MK2类武器/设备。
